Split pea soup in crock pot

Split pea soup in crock pot - "My signature, no-fail, autumn/winter soup. The soup should be prepared one day in advance to allow the ingredients to thicken, but I do break that rule for the best results. Split pea soup and Russian rye bread are our favorites!

FAQ

Why are the split peas in my slow cooker still hard?

Assuming that your split peas are hard after this length of cooking time, something isn't quite right about the peas or with your water. The peas won't soften if they are very old and dry. Furthermore, assuming the water you use for making the soup is difficult with loads of disintegrated minerals that can prevent the peas from mellowing.

Should split peas be soaked prior to cooking?

Divide peas, similar to lentils, needn't bother with to drenched before cook. Beans need to be soaked before being cooked, but these peas can be used right in the recipe because they are peas. Even so, it's still a good idea to thoroughly rinse your peas before cooking to get rid of any dirt.
